Dr. Seigel explained one reason the numbers were spiking was that people were finally returning to thier doctors and hospitals for long delayed medical treatment. They waited until the worst of the pandemic scare was over before they went in to have their non-essential medical conditions checked. Cancer checkups, heart disease operations, hernia and other elective surgeries were now being performed. The problem was that every incoming hospital patient who had coronavirus in the past three months were then counted in the hospitalization totals even if they were being treated for something unrelated. The increasing numbers were not cases of patients sick with the coronavirus!
Another telling statistic (also not widely reported) was while the number of reported cases was going up explosively, the death rate was not. It remained under 700 deaths per day. That wouldn't be possible if the increased numbers were actually new cases.
In addition, young people who had been under the lockdown mandate were getting out and socializing. This age group typically has mild cases of coronavirus. Sometimes they don't even know they have it because they don't feel sick. A statistic from the CDC, not widely reported in the media, is that for the last 15,000 deaths from COVID-19 only 3.9% of those deaths (585) were for people under 44 years of age. Very few young people die from this disease! The overall death rate is still only 1/10 of 1% (0.1%).
What this means is we don't have to wait for a vaccine to protect ourselves from this virus. Herd immunity can be acquired when enough young people have the antibodies. Experts estimate this occurs when 60% of the population have been exposed to the virus. The virus will be stopped in its tracks and the sick and elderly will be protected because people are not spreading it anymore. Healthy immune systems make them immune to it. The kindest thing we can do to protect the most vulnerable is to reach that 60% level of exposure to COVID-19.
Instead of encouraging healthy young people to wear a mask and stay socially distant from each other, we can encourage them to live their lives knowing they will help us all reach herd immunity. If we are worried about our immune system not being able to protect us, there are many things we can do to strengthen it. This 50 minute protocol presentation by Dr. Roby Mitchell (aka Dr. Fitt) is very helpful. He gives a great overview of what viral infections are and he emphasizes the importance of minerals like zinc and vitamins A, D, and C. For information on how to choose between what's natural versus synthetic/inorganic, see my book.
Scientists estimate there are 10 quintillion (10 with 30 zeroes after it!) viruses on planet earth. They are the smallest, most abundant, and widespread biological entities here. There are 380 trillon viruses inside the average human body! 11% of our human genes are made up of viral DNA. We don't need to fear viruses. Viruses infect the cells in our body all the time. They interact with the bacteria in our microbiome forming bacteriophages. Sometimes they kill bacteria but most often they are asymptomatic meaning they don't affect our everyday health in noticeable ways. We have a lot to learn about the human virome but, there is no reason to fear it. A strong immune system is the best defense against COVID-19 or any other virus.
